TVS NTorq 125

BEHOLD THE NEW TVS NTORQ 125

OPEN YOUR SENSES TO A REVOLUTIONARY RIDING EXPERIENCE

Scooter sales are booming, now. This isn’t a big surprise, as you see them wherever you go and their numbers are on a constant rise on our streets. It’s something similar to the commuter motorcycle boom witnessed in the early 1990s; but the bulk of the scooter sales have been confined to the 110cc segment – which does well as a family scooter. However, with youngsters coming into the fray, the demand for faster and exciting scooters has seen a rise. This has resulted in manufacturers stepping up their game. The latest to get on this bandwagon is TVS, with its new Ntorq 125cc scooter. It is the first 125cc offering from TVS and we spend a day riding it at its test track in the TVS factory.

The scooter weighs 116.1 kg and can be bought in four matte shades namely Red, Green, Yellow and White. The scooter rides on 12 inch tyres with alloy wheels.

The scooter is based on the concept of the same name showcased at the Auto Expo 2016.  The NTORQ 125 packs features such as a smartphone charging socket, split grab rails, an external fuel filler cap and an LED tail lamp. The fully digital instrument console comes with 55 features. A big draw will be the Bluetooth connectivity that pairs with your smartphone and, with the help of a rider app, allows you to take and receive calls on the move. The app is called TVS Smart Xconnect and allows you to access navigation, view caller ID on the dashboard, ride stats and last parked location. This feature is an India-first for a scooter.  Powering the scooter is an all-new 124.79cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine mated to a CVT automatic transmission. It makes 9.4PS at 7500rpm and and 10.5Nm of torque at 5500rpm.

The suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at the front and twin gas-charged rear shock absorbers attached to 12-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels wrapped in 100/80R12-section tubeless tyres. Braking is via a 220mm front petal disc and 130mm rear drum brake. It weighs 116 kilos (kerb) while fuel tank capacity stands at 5 litres. TVS Motor’s NTORQ 125 scooter is priced at Rs 58,750 ex-showroom. It will compete against the Honda Grazia, Suzuki Access 125 and the upcoming Aprilia SR 125 and Yamaha Nozza Grande.

Spitfire Bobber

CCM Motorcycles SPITFIRE BOBBER

The Bobber or “Bob-Job”evolved in 1930’s America from the “Cut-Down” bikes of the
1920’s. These were stripped back minimalist machines with all accessories removed, a
shortened rear and a lowered seat height making for a more compact, lighter
motorcycle. It was a logical choice then to launch our own version of the Bobber, taking
its underpinnings from the lean and lithe Spitfire, a bike as stripped back as a modern
road legal bike can be. And, don’t be deceived by those laid-back looks; like all Spitfires,
this bird can fly!

CCM’s “SkunkwerX” division has unveiled a new Bobber variant of their new Spitfire
range at the 2018 MCN London Motorcycle Show that concluded recently. The bike will
use the same 600cc single pot mill that does the job on all the Spitfire models including
the Scrambler, Café Racer, and the Flat Tracker.

The newest member of the Spitfire range is the new Spitfire Bobber that comes with a stripped-back bobber styling but still carries the cues from the rest of the motorcycles in the range. This organic look comes courtesy of the single floating seat, swept back bars, slammed suspension and chunky white-walled tires that keeps the vintage affair going around in the air.
