New HONDA Dunk, The scooter is aimed at a younger demographic, as young as high school boys.

Honda Unveils Dunk Scooter Concept

At this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Honda will give the world premier of their new 50cc scooter, the Honda Dunk. Koji Miwa, lead researcher at Honda Technical Research Institute and given the position of 2 wheel project leader has said, “The scooter is aimed at a younger demographic, as young as high school boys.”

It marks 12 years since Honda last released a 50cc scooter - with everything from the engine to the body newly developed by Honda - into the Japanese market.

At the product launch for the new Dunk that took place on February 3, Masaharu Iuchi, President of Honda Motorcycle Japan (HMJ), commented, "There has been a continued drop in demand from young people, and in order to curtail that we've announced this model as a no-frills commuter vehicle. We displayed a concept model at last year's Tokyo Motor Show, which received a great reaction from a lot of customers. We wanted to create something that would satisfy a wide range of customers, with young people in particular as the focus."

The 'Category 1' market of low-powered scooters - under which the Dunk is categorised - has shrunk to a twelfth of the size from its peak, and 2013 saw a drop in results from the previous year for the second year in a row. "Category 1 scooters are limited to 30km/h under regulation, as is the weight that they can carry, and because of such hard-to-categorise restrictions, it's a reality that they have become unsuitable for urban environments where cars are now the main constituent", said Iuchi. "Scooters could flourish in areas where there's not much public transport, or where light motor vehicles are essential for commuting to work and school, or for those who work in collection and delivery with newspapers, mail and so on."

In addition, Iuchi commented, "We want to increase the population of motorcycle users in the future, by making sure that those currently riding motorcycles continue to do so for a long time, as well as increasing the number of new customers. In order to accomplish that, we want to create an environment in which people have an interest in bikes from a young age, and through that interest, start using motorcycles - this is something that we are considering very seriously."

"The Dunk is a model that we believe should be an appealing alternative to customers who currently value energy conservation and performance", he added.

KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R ABS 2014: THE BEAST UNLEASHED

KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R ABS 2014:  THE BEAST UNLEASHED

In the form of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, KTM has crowned its legendary Naked Bike model range with a machine that redefines the term 'Streetfighter'. One look at its impressive performance data and aggressive design is enough to see that the 1290 R is the most extreme Super Duke ever. Thanks to unbeatable performance in conjunction with the versatility provided by the adjustable riding modes and PowerParts setups, pure riding pleasure is pre-programmed - from the racetrack to the city and everywhere in between. The new KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R perfectly embodies the KTM philosophy: endless power, highest precision, perfect ergonomics, finest ingredients, not a gram too many, simply "Ready to Race"! The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R – high-tech in an aggressive design with unprecedented functionality and razor-sharp sportiness reduced to the essentials. The new KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R transforms optimum performance with maximum safety into ultimate riding pleasure.

From zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.2 seconds – with low fuel consumption and a 15,000 km service interval

What happens when KTM packs the attributes of the proven 75-degree V-twin into 1.3 litres of displacement? The result is an extremely lightweight, elemental engine filled with state-of-the-art racing technology, yet still even more sophisticated, durable and cultivated than ever. 132 kW (180 hp) peak power, 144 Nm maximum torque with 100 Nm as early as 2500 rpm – could there be better guarantees for explosive propulsion whatever the revs?

Fast bikes need good brakes – the KTM 1290 Super Duke R bears the best. Brembo M50 monoblock callipers bite powerfully with perfect application into 320 mm brake discs – assisted in the event of an emergency stop by Bosch ABS that's imperceptible in normal operation, even when riding full throttle. Except of course in Supermoto mode: ABS up front; freedom to slide at the rear!

Optimum acceleration as well then, whenever the throttle hand turns a little too wildly.

Opening up the throttle is fun – all the more so when it unleashes the elemental force of a 1290 Super Duke R. Nevertheless, overdoing it can end in tears, so it's great when ride-by-wire intervenes at such moments. The 1290 Super Duke R intelligently translates rider's commands at the throttle twist grip into electronic opening of the throttle valve. And always in the way that makes best sense. This means, for example, that the engine accelerates more smoothly. And hence that the rear wheel only rotates as much as is just about still healthy. Incidentally, the rider notices none of this assistance. Only that everything always makes optimum forward progress.

Let others work for themselves – the traction control determines throttle response and slide angle

Party – simply overdo it for once without worries. Everyone likes to, which is why the 1290 Super Duke R uses one of the world's most advanced traction control systems. Open up the throttle. Let the many horses run free. It doesn't matter - before they start to stampede, traction control intervenes. Sooner or later, depending on the mode selected. But always smoothly and safely thanks to Bosch and Keihin ride-by-wire

WORKS OF ART
Finest components for perfect handling – for mile after mile of pleasure!

Mechanics can be so beautiful – above all, when designers can draw on unlimited resources. Whether it be the CroMo steel tubular space frame, the single-sided swingarm, the fork or the shock absorber, the 1290 Super Duke R is made from only the finest components. Perfectly arranged and tuned with one another, for only so are such excellent steering precision or such gigantic reserves created. See if you can find anything like it anywhere else – take a test ride!

Grip in every situation, steering precisely as desired – perfect tyres for perfect riding pleasure

Not only do the intricate, low-pressure, die-cast wheels look good, they are also very stable and light. And then the tyres: With seamlessly wound belt stitching and tread, the tailor-made Dunlop Sportsmart² on the Super Duke R enter new technological territory. For even wear, perfect steering behaviour and sensational grip in cold, hot or wet conditions. And fantastic ride stability.

The most beautiful components are created when cost is no object – for example, the singe-sided swingarm on the 1290 Super Duke R. Stiff and muscular, it is a potent partner when the Super Duke unleashes its torque and riding dynamics. With 50 mm rear axle and eccentric adjustment – and still much lighter than normal single-sided swingarms. Normal? Not quite!

Simply get on and feel comfortable. Everyone. Male or female.

Have you ever thought about seat position? Stack and reach, leg arch length, seat height, seat foam, knee angle and knee contact, handlebar width, position and offset, the Shore hardness of grip rubbers, tall riders, short riders, fat or skinny – a hell of a lot of work and brainpower goes into it. On every motorcycle. But only on a few is the seat position as successful as on the 1290 Super Duke R. Something we're very proud of.

Surprises are best when nobody expects them. For example, the 1290 Super Duke R is highly economical with fuel. It has a 15,000 km service interval. Daytime running light as standard. An instrument with the most extensive info or the world's simplest mode switching. A placid rain mode with even higher fuel economy. Amazing wind protection and comfort. And still all the talents of the beast.

New HERO Xtreme 2014 First Ride and Review

New HERO Xtreme 2014

Hero MotoCorp is silently updating its entire range of models for 2014. After the Splendor motorcycle and Pleasure scooter, the company has updated the 150cc Xtreme with a host of changes to the styling and an improved powertrain on the motorcycle. The version is only called Xtreme and not ‘Xtreme Sports’ as showcased last year. The Xtreme competes with the Bajaj Pulsar set to get a facelift, Yamaha FZ models and the Honda CB Trigger in the segment.

The new Hero Xtreme is mostly a cosmetic upgrade exercise. The bike gets a new headlamp unit with what Hero calls ‘Highbrow’ position lights, it might look cool at night but the overall unit looks a bit out-of-proportion in some angles. The front mud-gaurd is the same design as before but get dual-tone paint now. The alloy-wheel design on the front and rear remain the same.

The indicators are not integrate onto the front fairing as before, the mirror covers are dual-toned now. The tank design is new, and so are the body panels and so is the grab rail design. You get new gas-charged shock absorbs at the rear. The tail-lamp is no longer a single unit, the stop-lamp is a mish-mash of LED lights. The new Xtreme also gets a new inner mud-guard.

New features on the bike include an all-new analogue-digital instrument cluster that is easier on the eyes than before and a new underseat mobile charging socket. Mechanically the only change is the fatter (by 10-mm) rear tyre. The Xtreme is still propelled by the same air-cooled single cylinder 150cc engine with an out put of 14 BHP @8500 RPm and 12.80 Nm @ 6500 RPM attached to a 5-speed gearbox sending power to the rear wheels via chain. Braking is provided by a 240mm disc at front and a 130mm drum at the rear, you can also choose a 220mm disc for the rear for better stopping ability.

The tail-piece, 5-spokes alloy wheels pattern and side panels remains unchanged. The overall design of the bike is pretty much similar with its predecessors. The special feature in this bike is that a mobile charger has been provided by the company underneath the seat.

After discussing all the above mentioned specifications and features of Hero Xtreme, we can say for sure that this bike is an extreme challenger to its other competitors of the same segment. As of now, only front disc brake variant is available at the dealerships.

The price ranges for single disc brake version is Rs 66,275 (Ex-Showroom Delhi) and for double disc brake variant you need to pay Rs 5000 extra. So, to conclude, if you would like to with Hero brand name you can definitely go with this bike.

2015 Yamaha Motorcycle Model FZ-07 Review

2015 Yamaha Motorcycle Model FZ-07 Review

2015 Yamaha FZ-07 Review

The newest member of the "FZ family", the all new 2015 FZ-07 is a motorcycle that brings fun, affordability and riding enjoyment back to the street. This versatile naked roadster offers deep engine torque and a comfortable riding position in a lightweight, easy to handle sports chassis. It's the perfect machine for both new and experienced riders alike who are looking for outstanding value.

Power
All new, liquid-cooled, 689cc, inline twin has been designed to provide deep, powerful torque in the most frequently used rpm range (3,000 to 6,500 rpm). A single balancer shaft keeps things silky smooth, while the 6-speed transmission with overdrive 6th gear reduces engine rpms at highway speeds and enhances the engine's character.

Control
The 38mm Mikuni throttle body fuel injection system combines with the 270 degree "Crossplane Concept" CP2 crankshaft to provide easy to use linear throttle response, providing the rider with the ability to control the FZ-07 at will.

Style
From the compact "diamond type" frame to the single 60/55 watt headlight to the naked roadster bodywork, the FZ-07's styling highlights its super lightweight of only 180 kgs (397 lbs). The conventional handlebar design and upright riding position translates into all day riding comfort.

ENGINE
• All new, lightweight and compact 689cc, DOHC, 8-valves (4-valves/cyl), liquid-cooled, 20 degree inclined, inline-twin cylinder engine. The engine has been tuned to provide plenty of low to mid-range torque with very linear throttle response. This engine is not about big specification numbers; it produces 75 hp. and 50 ft. lbs. of torque and is designed to maximize riding fun in the real world.
• Downdraft style combustion chamber features 4-valves per cylinder and an 11.5:1 compression ratio for excellent torque output. Four valves per cylinder enhances the low to midrange torque.
• Intake valves are 31.5mm in diameter and exhaust valves are 26.5mm. The valve angle is set at 29 degrees (intake = 14 degrees & exhaust = 15 degrees) to keep the combustion chamber compact. The stainless steel valves feature an Isonite surface treatment and carburized tips for improved durability and wear resistance.
• Camshafts are designed to accentuate low to mid-range power in the most commonly used rpm range (3,000 to 6,500 rpm).
• Valve adjustment intervals are every 40,000 kms.
• Newly designed 270 degree crankshaft with an uneven firing is used. This design features the Crossplane Concept, which reduces inertial torque while emphasising linear torque development in response to the rider's throttle action. Throttle response is very linear and easy to control, providing an excellent level of "rider - machine communication". The CP Concept offers "ride ability that allows the rider to control the machine at will."
• A lightweight, gear driven "coupling force" balancer shaft is used to reduce engine vibration for excellent rider comfort.
•"Fracture split" connecting rods feature a nut less design. The lower end "cap" of the rod is made from the same piece of material as the upper portion; this design is known as "fracture splitting". This design provides excellent durability.
• Lightweight forged aluminum pistons provide fast engine response, reduced weight and reduced mechanical vibration.
• Direct plated cylinders are a "liner less" design with a ceramic coating sprayed directly on the aluminum block. This coating enhances the thin film of oil between the cylinder and piston which reduces friction and increases power. Other important benefits include; excellent heat dissipation for consistent power delivery and reduced weight since there are no liners.
• One-piece cylinder and upper crankcase assembly provides superior engine rigidity and reduces weight. The engine is a stressed member for increased chassis rigidity.
• Offset cylinder / crank design offsets the cylinder 7mm relative to the crankshaft (to the exhaust side) to reduce frictional losses between the pistons and the cylinder wall for improved power output and improved fuel economy.
• Automatic cam chain tensioner reduces mechanical engine noise and maintenance.
• Mikuni 38mm dual bore throttle body fuel injection system utilizes a throttle position sensor (TPS) and an idle speed control (ISC). The injectors feature 12 holes and 19.5 degree spray pattern.
• This is a closed loop fuel injection system, with an oxygen sensor that monitors the amount of oxygen in the spent exhaust gases and adjusts the fuel -air mixture via the ECU and FI system for maximum performance with minimum emissions. The benefits of fuel injection include choke-free starting, steady idling during warm up, excellent fuel economy, and reduced emissions. The system has been "tuned" to provide excellent "ride ability" due to the "linear" throttle control.
• Compact Electronic Control Unit (ECU) utilizes a powerful 32-bit processor for fast control of the injection, and ignition processes. The compact design reduces weight.
• New air box design features dual intakes to reduce intake noise while still providing an exciting intake sound that accentuates the exhaust note. A viscous paper type air filter is utilized.
• All new, compact 6-speed transmission "stacks" input/output shafts to centralize mass and to keep the overall engine size shorter front to back which allows the engineers the freedom to place the engine in the frame for optimum front to rear weight balance. The transmission ratios are specially designed to suit the character (torque & power) of the engine. The wide spread of torque and specially designed gear ratios means fewer gear changes. Sixth gear is an over drive gear to reduce engine rpms at highway speeds for a comfortable ride.
• Compact, wet-type, multi-plate clutch ensures consistent, positive engagement and a light lever pull.
• Stylish, compact, low mounted, 2 into 1 exhaust system utilizes a triple expansion muffler design with a 3-way honeycomb catalyzer to reduce harmful CO and HC exhaust emissions. The low mounted design centralizes mass for excellent handling and a light weight feeling.
• New, lightweight, vertical flow flat radiator design with ring type cooling fan provides maximum cooling efficiency while minimizing the "thickness" of the rad.
• Liquid-cooled oil cooler maintains stable lubricant temperatures for extended engine life.
• Maintenance-free transistor-controlled ignition (TCI) ensures fast starts and great performance at all rpms.
• High performance direct ignition coils (ignition coil is built into the spark plug cap) reduce weight and complexity.
• Easy access spin-on type oil filter and engine oil drain plug.
• Convenient oil level sight glass means fast, easy oil level inspection.
• AC Magneto produces 410 watts of power @ 5,000rpm

CHASSIS / SUSPENSION
• All new, lightweight, diamond-type, backbone high tensile steel frame provides an optimized rigidity balance for light, agile handling with excellent stability. The engine is a stressed member of the chassis, allowing a lighter, more compact main frame design.
• The riding position is one of the most important features of the FZ-07, offering a balance between sporty handling and excellent rider comfort thanks to its upright riding position.
• Key chassis geometry figures include: 1400mm (55.1") wheelbase, 24.5 degrees of rake and 90mm of trail. The front to rear weight distribution is 49.2% front and 50.8% rear while the lean angle is 49 degrees, highlighting the sporty nature of the FZ-07. The chassis dimensions and shape have been designed to centralize mass and lower the centre of gravity to provide the rider with light, agile handling.
• Stylish, lightweight, high tensile steel "gull wing" type short design swingarm offers great rear wheel control.
• 41mm conventional style fork offers 130mm (5.1") of wheel travel.
• Lightweight, aluminum upper and lower triple clamps. Fork pitch is 190mm (7.5")
• Adjustable link-type Monocross rear suspension is a "progressive" design. The horizontally mounted rear shock can be adjusted for 9 settings of spring pre-load. This adjustment allows the rider to tailor pre-load settings to match rider weight or load. Rear wheel travel is 130mm or 5.1"
• Dual 282mm floating wave-style front discs are squeezed by ultra-rigid Advic, mono block, 4-piston calipers which provide outstanding stopping power and feel.
• 245mm wave-style rear disc is squeezed by a lightweight single piston slide-type Nissin caliper.
• Lightweight, cast-aluminum 10-spoke mag wheels reduce unsprung weight for great handling and suspension performance. The front wheel is an MT3.50-17 and is fitted with a 120/70ZR17 radial tire. The rear wheel is a MT5.50-17 fitted with a 180/55ZR17 radial tire.
• Conventional handlebar design combines with the upright riding position to provide excellent all day riding comfort. Conventional design means the bars can be changed if desired.
• 14-litre fuel tank offers a slim design with great knee grip. Slim design combines with the low seat height for a light, agile feel and increased rider confidence. The "reserve" portion of the tank is 2.7 litres (this is when the low fuel light will illuminate).
• Stylish, separate rider and passenger seats offer excellent comfort. Narrow design rider seat makes it easier to touch feet flat on the ground. Seat height is 805mm (31.7"). Rear seat can be removed and replaced by the optional Genuine Yamaha Accessory rear seat cowl if desired.
• New, compact, liquid crystal multi-function meter. Functions (all digital) include bar-style tachometer, digital speedometer, odometer, dual trip meters, fuel gauge, fuel reserve trip meter (counts kilometres since the fuel went on reserve), clock, gear indicator, instant & average fuel consumption, intake air temperature and coolant temperature. Plus a range of warning and indicator lights. Back lighting is adjustable.

ROYAL ENFIELD CONTINENTAL GT - THE AFFORDABLE AND FUN CAFE RACER

Royal Enfield Continental GT

Café racers have suffered the reputation as the hipsters' motorized vehicle of choice due to their vintage aesthetic reminiscent of the modified bikes from the mid '60s that English youth raced from one café to another. Thanks to Royal Enfield, the world's oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production, there's now a café racer with period-correct appearance, modern day performance and reliability, as well as a comfortable riding position – whether you wear skinny jeans or not.

First things first, the 2014 Continental GT is a sexy bike. Royal Enfield turned to the UK's Xenophya Design, who has worked with Triumph, Radical Ducati, and Aprilia to fine-tune the Continental GT's look, including an elongated tank that's recessed for the rider's knees and a clubman saddle with stitching that matches the color of the bike (red or yellow). The single cylinder, air-cooled 535cc engine produces a can't-get-you-in-too-much-trouble 29 horsepower and is bolted to a chassis designed by England's Harris Performance Products, who have designed and built race bikes for Yamaha and Suzuki. The Continental GT thrives at about 65 mph and below, making it perfect for urban riding as well as the 140 mile jaunt we took through the vineyards, farmland, and mountain switchbacks of Temecula wine country and northern San Diego County.

With a low standover height, and weighing only 405 lbs, it's also a great beginner bike. Sure, newbies often drop their motorcycle once or twice, but the CEO of Royal Enfield told us a few dings add character to this café racer, which says more about the personality of the India-based company than anything else: They believe the best way to admire a bike is to ride it as much as possible.

But, the Continental GT is a worthy rig for experienced riders as well. Hop on, hit the electric start or kickstarter (it comes with both), and the first thing you notice is the gentle rumble of the thumper that's Scarlett Johansson sexy. The second thing you're likely to notice is the placement of the foot pegs, which are farther back than most, and put you in a more aero position. And those vintage looks? They're deceiving. The springs that appear to handle rear suspension duties are actually adjustable, gas-charged shocks by Paioli and the clip-on handlebars are mounted higher on the fork stanchions, making a very comfortable ride. And yet you'll be close enough to a full tuck position to realize the hipsters were right about café racers all along.
