Bajaj Pulsar 220 get new dual-tone colours in India

Bajaj Pulsar 220 get new dual-tone colours in India

The Bajaj Pulsar brand is a huge success in India, and while we hear that all-new Pulsar 150 and 180 are coming up soon, the company has done precious little till now to liven up the existing range. But just before the launch of the new Pulsars, Bajaj has introduced new colour schemes on existing stocks. The benevolence of this update though has been extended only to the Pulsar 180 and 220. The new colours on both the motorcycles include pearl metallic white, sapphire blue and cocktail wine red. The NS200 was the first motorcycle to get these new dual-tone colours.

There aren’t any mechanical changes to the motorcycles yet. The Pulsar 180 is powered by a 180cc 4-stroke DTS-i engine which makes 17PS of power and 14Nm of torque. Doing duty in the Pulsar 220 is an oil-cooled, single-cylinder 220cc motor which develops 21PS and 19Nm of power and torque respectively. Both the bikes have a 5-speed transmission. The Pulsar 180 comes with a 260mm disc in the front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear. The 220 in the meanwhile has a 260mm disc in the front and 230mm disc at the rear. Bajaj has given a telescopic front suspension and 5-way adjustable Nitrox shock absorbers at the rear on both the motorcycles. There are also tubeless tyres on both

The Bajaj Pulsar 180 is priced at Rs 68,537 while the Pulsar 220 retails at Rs 79,838, ex-Pune.

Hyosung GV650 Aquila pro test ride and review

Hyosung GV650 Aquila pro

The Aquila Pro GV650’s blend of laid back custom cruiser and modern power cruiser design attracts a lot of stares. It has a round chromed headlamp and wide cruiser-typical handlebars. The sharply styled, large fuel-tank along with mock air dams add to this cruiser’s overall appeal. The Aquila Pro uses LCD instruments which display a speedometer that’s easy to read on the fly, while also showing fuel and temperature levels.

At the rear, an elongated tail section and LED tail-light give the GV650 a modern touch. A chunky exhaust canister and a fat 180 section rear tyre compliment the muscular image of this motorcycle. The Hyosung further impresses with a good level of fit-and-finish. Paint quality and lustre is top notch, however some plastic bits could be better finished.

The Aquila Pro GV650’s strong exhaust rumble originates from a 647cc, liquid cooled, V-twin powerplant which generates 74bhp and 9000rpm and peak torque of 6.3kgm at 7500rpm, the same engine here as does duty on the GT650R. The GV650 uses a 5-speed gearbox and its gear ratios are focussed at making the motorcycle less stressful to ride. The Aquila Pro doesn’t like being revved hard and feels more comfortable lower down in the rev range, like most cruisers.

However, slower traffic on the highway won’t intrude on riding pleasure, as a flick of the wrist or a single tap at the mechanical feeling gearbox brings you quickly to the next stretch of open road. Riding a cruiser isn’t only about sheer performance, but more about the experience in the saddle.

The Aquila Pro GV650 deploys a double cradle steel frame with adjustable upside-down front forks and twin, hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear, bolted onto a box section swingarm. The riding position is relaxed with forward set foot pegs and wide handlebars, and a well cushioned seat adds to comfort.

Despite the Aquila Pro’s 240kg kerb weight, it tackles corners well thanks to a rigid frame and grippy Bridgestone tyres. For stopping power, the GV650 uses twin 300mm discs in the front and a single 270mm disc at the rear, both providing ample bite.

All in all, the GV650 Aquila Pro makes an enjoyable cruiser to ride back home on a long road and is a good motorcycle from Hyosung. Importantly, here’s a bike capable of delivering a credible cruiser alternative to other budget cruisers in the market.

2014 Yamaha Fazer 8 Review

2014 Yamaha Fazer 8

The Fazer 8 is designed for riders who appreciate an optimum blend of power, weight, and size and of course comfort too. It fills the gap between the 600cc and 1000cc classes perfectly. Its 779cc engine offers a plenty of mid-range torque while the lightweight chassis and adjustable suspension provide outstanding cornering performance. The Fazer 8 is a mid class sport bike that excels in delivering fun and comfort each and every time you swing a leg over the seat.

2014 Yamaha Fazer 8  Key Features
POWER
779cc, DOHC, 16 valve (4-valves/cyl), liquid-cooled, 40 degree inclined, inline-four cylinder engine. The engine has been tuned to provide plenty of low to mid range torque with strong yet linear throttle response. Redline is set at 11,500 rpm and features a "soft" rev limiter to protect the engine.

RIDING STYLE
The riding position is one of the most important features of the Fazer 8. Based on the FZ1 layout, it offers a balance between a sporty riding position and excellent rider comfort.

2014 Yamaha Fazer 8 Features and Benefits

ENGINE

•779cc, DOHC, 16 valve (4-valves/cyl), liquid-cooled, 40 degree inclined, inline-four cylinder engine. The engine has been tuned to provide plenty of low to mid range torque with strong yet linear throttle response. Redline is set at 11,500 rpm and features a "soft" rev limiter to protect the engine.
•Compact "Pent roof" combustion chamber design features 4-valves per cylinder and a 12:1 compression ratio for excellent torque feeling. Four valves per cylinder enhances the low to midrange torque.
•Intake valves are 26mm in diameter while the exhaust valves are 22mm.
• Crankshaft inertial mass has been optimized to achieve strong torque over a broad rpm range as well as fast throttle response.
•"Fracture split" connecting rods are carburized for extra strength and use a nut less design. The lower end "cap" of the rod is made from the same piece of material as the upper portion; this design is known as "fracture splitting". This design aids in establishing true big end roundness and greater precision in con rod dimensions for excellent durability despite the high horsepower loads.
• Inline-four cylinder crankshaft is based on the FZ1 design.
•Ceramic composite cylinder "bores" are a "liner less" design with the ceramic coating sprayed directly on the aluminum block. This coating enhances the thin film of oil between the cylinder and piston which reduces friction and increases power. Other important benefits include; excellent heat dissipation for consistent power delivery and reduced weight since there are no heavy liners.
• Short skirt, lightweight forged pistons. Lightweight design aids in fast engine response and reduced engine weight. During the forging process, the aluminum is heated to the point where it can be shaped under pressure in a die but not to the point that it melts. By not melting the aluminum, the material stays stronger and hence can be lighter with excellent durability.
•Lightweight, hollow intake and exhaust camshafts provide incredible horsepower and fast engine response. Cam profiles and the cam timing are designed to enhance low to midrange power and torque.
•Automatic hydraulic cam chain tensioner reduces both maintenance and mechanical engine noise.
•Mikuni "sub throttle valve" fuel injection system is based on the FZ1 design, featuring 35mm throttle bodies fitted with T.P.S. (Throttle Position Sensor). This style of fuel injection uses sub throttle valves in addition to the main valves to further control the intake airflow. The sub valves optimize the intake volumetric efficiency at all rpms and are powered by a stepping motor that is controlled by the ECU. The key benefit is excellent "ride ability" and throttle response.
• This is a closed loop fuel injection system, with an oxygen sensor that monitors the amount of oxygen in the spent exhaust gases and adjusts the fuel -air mixture via the ECU and FI system for maximum performance with minimum emissions. The benefits of fuel injection include choke-free starting, steady idling during warm up, excellent fuel economy, and reduced emissions. The oxygen sensor is located before the muffler, so the use of slip-on mufflers will not affect this system.
•The injectors are sequential high dynamic range type featuring 4 holes and a dual directional spray pattern for excellent power and a linear throttle response across the entire rev range.
• The fuel injection's lightweight Electronic Control Unit (ECU) utilizes a powerful 32-bit processor for fast control of the injection process. The compact design also reduces weight.
• Specially designed 7.8 litre air box features different intake funnel lengths for the inner (150mm) and outer (125mm) cylinders. The benefit is a wide torque curve. A high flow paper type air filter is utilized.
•R1 inspired "stacked" 3-axis gearbox / clutch design stacks input/output shafts to centralize mass and keeps overall engine size shorter front to back. As a result, the stacked design gives the engineers the freedom to place the engine in the "sweet spot" of the frame for optimum front to rear weight balance and thereby maximizing handling performance.
•Smooth shifting wide ratio 6-speed transmission features optimized gear ratios for maximum performance in the "real world".
•Compact, heavy duty, multi-plate clutch ensures consistent, positive engagement. The clutch has been designed to provide a light lever pull for excellent rider comfort … especially during stop and go city use.
•4 into 2 into 1 exhaust system features 35mm diameter, stainless steel header pipes. The header pipe length has been optimized for maximum power and torque. The stylish muffler is fitted with a 3-way honeycomb catalyzer to reduce harmful CO and HC exhaust emissions.
•High-efficiency "curved" design radiator features compact dual ring-type fans for maximum cooling efficiency. This rad and fan design allows more airflow than conventional flat design rads to maintain optimum engine temperatures for consistent power output.
• Large liquid-cooled oil cooler maintains stable lubricant temperatures for extended engine life.
• Convenient easy access spin-on type oil filter.
• Maintenance-free transistor-controlled digital ignition (TCI) ensures fast starts and great performance at all rpms.
•Air Induction System (AIS … not ram air) reduces harmful HC and CO emissions for a cleaner environment.

CHASSIS/SUSPENSION

•Gravity cast, lightweight aluminum twin spar frame provides an optimized rigidity balance for incredible sports performance combined with great stability. The engine is a stressed member of the chassis, allowing a lighter main frame design without sacrificing stability or handling. The frame is the same spec and shape as the FZ1.
• The riding position is one of the most important features of the Fazer 8. Based on the FZ1 layout, it offers a balance between a sporty riding position and excellent rider comfort.
• Key chassis geometry figures include: 1460mm (57.5") wheelbase, 51% front and 49 % rear weight balance, 25 degrees of rake and 109 mm of trail. The 47 degree lean angle highlights the Fazer 8's sporty side.
•Detachable steel rear sub frame allows easy access to rear suspension components and reduces costs in the event of a "loop-out".
•C.F. (Controlled Filling) die cast aluminum truss-type rear swingarm offers great rear wheel control and traction for razor-sharp cornering and superb stability at speed. The 3-axis stacked engine design allows enough room for the engineers to use a long design (690mm) swingarm, which minimizes the effect of the chain tension on the bike's handling.
• Fully adjustable 43mm Kayaba inverted cartridge style fork offers 130mm (5.1") of wheel travel. The benefits of the inverted design include, reduced "unsprung" weight and reduced fork flex since the larger diameter tubes are gripped in the triple clamps. A reduction in unsprung weight allows improved control of the suspension function. Adjustments include spring pre-load, 13-way compression and 11-way rebound damping. The adjustable design allows the rider to tailor suspension settings to match rider weight, road /track conditions and riding style to maximize handling and suspension performance.
•Lightweight aluminum upper and lower triple clamps.
• Adjustable link-type Monocross rear suspension allows the rider to tailor suspension settings to match rider weight, riding style and road conditions to maximize handling and suspension performance. Adjustments include spring preload and 20-way rebound damping. Rear wheel travel is 130mm or 5.1"
•Dual 310mm floating front discs are squeezed by ultra rigid 4-piston, monoblock calipers which provide outstanding stopping power and feel. The master cylinder utilizes a 16mm piston for less lever effort.
•267mm rear disc is squeezed by a lightweight single piston slide-type Nissin caliper with sintered metal brake pads.
• Lightweight cast-aluminum 5-spoke wheels reduce unsprung weight for great handling characteristics. The front wheel is an MT3.50-17 and is fitted with a 120/70-ZR17 radial tire. The rear wheel is a MT5.50-17 fitted with a 180/55-ZR17 radial tire.
• Eye catching, half fairing offers surprisingly good wind and weather protection. The windshield features a special vent that allows some airflow behind the screen to help prevent the "vacuum effect" and to help reduce buffeting.
•Dual "cat eye" halogen 60/55 watt headlights.
•Conventional handlebar design features an upright positioning for maximum everyday riding comfort.
•17-liter fuel tank offers a slim design with great knee grip. The reserve portion of the tank is 3.4 litres.
•Separate rider and passenger seats offers exceptional solo or two-up comfort. Seat width is narrower than the FZ1, making it easier to touch the ground. Seat height is 815mm (32.1")
•One-piece race inspired instrument features analog tachometer, digital speedometer, odometer, dual tripmeters, fuel gauge, fuel reserve tripmeter (counts kilometres since the fuel went on reserve), clock, coolant temperature and a self diagnosis mode.

DETAILS
• Integrated passenger grab rails
•Adjustable, 5-position front brake lever
•Small storage compartment under the passenger seat
•Folding mirrors
•Excessive lean angle engine cut-out switch … if unit is on its side the engine will shut down

Well, we don’t have hoverboards yet, but soon we’ll have another new Honda (a small consolation). One way or another Big Red seems intent on dragging the motorcycle world into the future (there may or may not be kicking and/or screaming involved). Enter the NM4 with its futuristic, Bat Mobile like lines, fuel-efficient engine, and fancy multi-color display. The NM4 has the 670cc parallel twin from the NC700 along with its dual clutch gearbox, which is standard.

Unlike previous Honda DCT models, there will be no manual transmission available for the NM4 and ABS is also standard. It’s obvious that Honda is once again going after a whole new generation of customers, those who’ve probably never owned a motorcycle. The NM4 caters to these new riders with its exceptionally low seat height of 25.6 inches, automatic transmission, and what will certainly be a smooth and easily managed engine.

The bike features an all-digital instrument panel that has 25 background colors to choose from, an easily adjustable backrest, and 16 liter integrated saddlebags. The NM4 is set to retail for $10,999 in Black Metallic only. The new Honda isn’t likely to appeal to many experienced motorcyclists, but we can all hope that it will bring a new crop of riders into our sport, though it does bear a certain resemblance to Honda’s ill fated DN01. Look for the NM4, to hit dealer floors in June.

The control unit manages the regenerative braking system in conjunction with the ABS system. The VCU of the Energica EGO even checks battery efficiency when the vehicle is switched off.

Energica EGO has a 110-220 V on board battery charger with a cable interface on the charging station. It will also be available with a recharge inlet for the FAST CHARGE DC Combo 1 or 2 (depending on countries).

Energica EGO has a digital dashboard from COBO TFT with an active matrix of 4.3 inches and color display.

MYTHS

The electric motorcycle is quiet!
FALSE. The sound of the Energica EGO is a roar of power that will astonish you! This is due to the straight cut final drive gears similar to the drive train of an F1 car.

Can the Energica EGO go fast even without the gearbox?
TRUE. Electric motors provide massive torque, and are direct drive with a constant smooth powerband. The electric motor enables the vehicle to obtain constant high performance from 0 rpm up to redline. The speed from 0 to 100 km/h is less than 3 sec. The absence of the gearbox also makes riding easier. It is much simpler, pure, and safer. The rider can focus their attention on the pleasures of riding with the certainty of having all the necessary power to enjoy the gradual acceleration while carving a curve. Electric car manufacturers use the same design for their electric cars. In fact, a gearbox to support 195 Nm of torque, even if only 2 gears, would lead to an increase of weight, but also would lead to problems of proportions, which on a motorcycle are very restrictive. In addition, a misuse of the gearbox by the user may result in worse consumption (a person who “pulls the gears” consumes much more energy than a motorcycle without a gearbox).

The excitement of changing gears and feathering the clutch is gone and the lack of a transmission can reduce the excitement and passion of the rider
FALSE. It is hard to compare electric vehicles with the gas-burners. The internal combustion engine (ICE) achieves torque on a gradual curve that requires higher revolutions to obtain maximum performance. However, the electric motor behaves differently and will surprise you if you have only experienced ICE power. Maximum torque, the power transmitted from the wheel to the ground, is 100% from 0 to 5000rpm. In addition, with no transmission gears, clutch, or shifting, the process of searching for the “right gear” and RPM is eliminated, allowing for full concentration on braking, cornering, and acceleration. The excitement of riding an electric motorcycle is more than just power. It’s less work and instantly feeling the torque of the motor.

What about the range of Energica?
The range depends on its use, just like any type of vehicle. You’ll get about 150 km range with an average speed of 80 km/h, and 190/200 km with an average speed of 60 km/h (street circuit). On the  racetrack, you’ll get about 50 km range with an average speed of 100 km/h, but, of course, the Energica Ego is a streetbike not a racebike.

It takes too long to recharge the batteries!
FALSE. Energica EGO has a battery charging system of 110-220 V with a cable interface on the electric column. It will also be available with a recharge inlet for the FAST CHARGE DC Combo 2. So in AC charging (alternating current, such as at home) Energica recharges from 0 to 100% in about 3.5 h, while in DC charging from 0 to 85% in less than 30 min.

What about the charging stations? Where can I find them?
Enel is implementing a strong disclosure policy on sustainable mobility, and is installing its charging stations all over the Italian territory. You can find a map of all the columns at this link. The rest of the world is working hard to expand the charging infrastructure Alternative Fuels Data Center – Open Charge Map – Plugshare.com

And the batteries? How long do they last? Do they create pollution and how can they be recycled? Is it possible to give them a second life?
TRUE. We are working on the Second Life battery project. Even on a solution that will enable people to rent/lease the battery. In this case, for a small monthly fee you will have your battery replaced after a period of time and your vehicle will be as new!

Are you creating a naked version? What will be the price of Energica Ego?
TRUE/FALSE. Currently Energica EGO will be available in Matte Pearl White and Matte Black. The price is not fixed yet. It will depend on the battery’s price fluctuations on the market in 2014. We hope to remain between 22,000 to 25,000 € (25,000 to 28,000 $ + taxes) + VAT. Energica Ego will be available for purchase in 2015. The price will depend also on state laws and the incentives that there will be at that time. For the naked version … we will see…?
