New KTM 1290 Super Adventure 2015

New KTM 1290 Super Adventure 2015

KTM proudly unveiled their new 1290 Super Adventure today at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, after officially announcing the model in August. New details reveal a long-distance touring motorcycle with a no compromise approach toward safety and comfort.

KTM’s new flagship Adventure Touring model is built on the 1190 Adventure platform with the Super Duke’s 1301cc V-Twin powerplant stuffed inside. The engine has been detuned 20hp for enduro and touring characteristics, but is still able to achieve a category high of 160hp.

The 1290 Super Adventure is optimized for comfort with better wind protection and a windscreen that can be adjusted with a single hand. A semi-active WP suspension system adapts damping rates in real-time to the riding surface and rider, ensuring a smooth ride. Heated seat, grip warmers and electronic cruise control all come standard. A 7.9 gallon (30 Liter) tank should allow riders to continue riding over 300 miles without refueling.

KTM reports the new 1290 Super Adventure is “the safest motorcycle in the world” and the bike is packed with more sophisticated electronic rider aids than any previous model. Included are KTM’s advanced traction control (MTC) and ABS (MSC) systems, both designed to be lean angle aware with a range of selectable presets.

Newly developed LED cornering headlights and tire pressure monitoring sensors are also standard. An electronic hill hold control (HHC) is available as an option, as well as an engine drag torque control that prevents the rear wheel from losing grip, should the rider chop the throttle or pop the clutch on a downshift.

KTM claims the new 1290 Super Adventure weighs 505 lbs. (229 kg) with all fluids except fuel. That’s an additional 37.5 lbs (17 kg) of heft over the standard KTM 1190 Adventure, but still roughly 20 lbs. (9.1 kg) lighter than the BMW R1200GS Adventure. Suspension travel on the Super Adventure is .4 in. (10 mm) more than the standard 1190 Adventure, although both bikes have the same ground clearance and seat height.

No announcements have been made yet on price, but we can expect a pronounced increase over the standard 1190 Adventure. KTM will keep the existing 1190 Adventure and Adventure R models in the range for 2015.

Vespa 2014 Primavera: In-Depth Specs and Comparison

Vespa 2014 Primavera

At first glance, the 2014 Vespa Primavera, appears to be a mostly aesthetic update of its predecessor, the LX series. Underneath the cowls, however, there are a number of improvements in design and engineering that distinguish the new model from the old. Beyond the styling, the technology and engineering represent the biggest evolutionary leap in the mid-size Vespas since the ET was introduced in 2000.

While scooter companies continue to push the limits on engine size, releasing bigger and bigger models each year, the qualities of smaller scooters are the basis for the classic image of scootering and much of the joy of riding associated with that nostalgic ideal. It’s reassuring to see that this segment of the market — the 125cc-150cc range — isn’t being ignored. It actually represents the lion’s share of global scooter sales.

In comparing the Primavera with earlier Vespas, we focused on the 125cc and 150cc versions. (In general, many scooters that are 125cc in other countries are 150cc in the US. This is due to licensing and other requirements.) While there will be 50cc versions of the Primavera, as there are for the LX, they don’t share some of the biggest new features of their larger siblings, such as a new engine. Other characteristics such as dimensions, styling and so on are uniform across all of the models.

The most obvious changes from the LX are in the styling of the Primavera. Many of the cues and the move from round to angled are borrowed from the new Vespa 946, the company’s high-dollar, limited-edition showpiece. In many ways, the Primavera is the practical version of the 946, with the more excessive design features scaled back and the addition of storage, better passenger space and a price tag far below $10,000. (Final pricing has not yet been announced; we anticipate it will be slightly higher than the current LX series.)

Not only does the Primavera have the storage the 946 lacks, it offers more and better storage than its predecessor. The underseat space  is larger thanks to the relocation of the battery to under the floorboards. That means the ability to stash bigger helmets and more groceries under the seat. The glovebox has also been improved thanks to simple plastic enclosures to keep items from falling out. This has been a design flaw (or “challenge,” at least) in new Vespas for over a decade. Glad they’ve worked it out.

The new model also features redesigned gauges and controls. The dash is simplified, with a larger, high-contrast speedometer over a multi-function LCD display and indicator lights. The gauges are a nice nod to the  “clamshell” design found on many vintage Vespa models and the original ’60s Primavera. There’s a new switch on the right handlebars as well, above the starter, labeled “mode.” This is likely to control the LCD readout.

The biggest change in the Primavera is the new 3-Valve (3V) engine, first unveiled in the Vespa 946. This has been available in LX models sold overseas for the past model year, but not the US version of the LX. (The US version of the 2013 Piaggio Fly does have the 3V engine, though.) Without getting into the technical details, the completely new motor is stronger, faster and more efficient than its predecessor. These are the spoils of research and development: a lighter engine that gets better gas mileage, puts out more power yet requires less maintenance. Other companies (particularly Honda) have made some good strides in improving engine efficiency and output in recent years. Over the past decade, Vespa’s 125cc/150cc engines have had some modest upgrades, including the move to fuel injection, but nothing as substantial as this.

The Primavera has a number of other performance and handling upgrades. The transmission has been redesigned and features a new clutch and a system to maximize power output and fuel economy at lower RPMs and speeds. Though no specific technical details are yet available Vespa claims the transmission is designed to “to reduce engine rotations when shifting up from a low gear to a high one,” which may mean a new type of variator. In addition, the front suspension is all new. The rear tire has been bumped from a 10″ to an 11″ which will improve stability and allows a larger rear drum brake.

The downside of that 11″ rear tire is that the size (120/70-11″) is rare. One frequent criticism of the LX models was the scarcity of tires available in its unique 110/70-11″ tire size. There have often been fewer than five options on the market. Michelin, which makes the stock City Grip tires shown on Vespa’s press photos of the Primavera doesn’t list the new rear tire size among its offerings. It may be a year or longer before more options are available for a Primavera rear tire.

The full specs, as currently available, for the Primavera and current LX (US version) are in the table below. Improvements and changes for the Primavera are in red. ScooterFile will have further information, including pricing and availability, when available.

Suzuki Let's 2014 Scooter Price & Specifications Detailed

2014  Suzuki Let's Scooter

Suzuki Motorcycles India has now opened pre-booking for its latest scooter in the market called 'Suzuki Let's'. The scooter was globally unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014 along side Suzuki Gixxer bike in January. Though the company hasn't revealed an official release date, the Suzuki Let's scooter has got a price in India tag of Rs. 47,000 (ex-showroom Mumbai). Interested parties can pre-book the scooter from their nearest Suzuki dealerships for Rs. 1,000. Ready to take on the newly introduced Yamaha Ray, TVS Jupiter, Honda Activa i and probably the upcoming TVS Scooty Zest two-wheelers, the Suzuki Let's scooter deserves a good look at its specifications and features from consumers looking to buy a new one for the family in 2014.

Suzuki has shared that they have built the Let's scooter from ground up and it is all new inside and outside. Powered by a 112.8cc engine that delivers 8.7PS max power at 7500rpm and a peak torque rating of 9Nm at 5500rpm, the Suzuki Let's claims a fuel efficiency of 63 kmpl (credit given to the SEP or Suzuki Eco Performance technology). It has to be noted here that - the Suzuki Let's is different than the company's previous models such as Suzuki Access 125 and Swish 125 with respect to the looks and features it offers. The new two-wheeler wants to target the young ladies and college goers alike.

On the looks category, the Suzuki Let's scooter fairs well with its mid-size proportions and deeply cut silhouettes on the front apron. As you can see from the pictures above, there's a clear lens and halogen-equipped headlamp on the front. Placed in the centre under the handle is a single bag hook which gives the rider quick access for mounting baggages. Under the convenience zone, we found that the underseat storage is quite adequate. The front and rear suspension are both coil spring and oil damped, while the front is telescopic, the rear is swing arm type. The scooter does feature 90/90x10 tubeless tyres.

It is important to note here that the scooter weighs just 98kgs, but has no disc brake option. Other important features are - electric start support, digital speedometer, fuel gauge, low fuel indicator, side stand alarm and pass light. The company will be launching the scooter in 5 color variants - Pearl Mira red, Pearl Mirage white, Sparkle black, Metallic Triton blue and Metallic Sonic silver.

That's all about the features and specifications of the all-new Suzuki Let's scooter. How would you like to ride it on the Indian roads? Share with me in comments below.

New Suzuki Gixxer 150cc first look, Specification

New Suzuki Gixxer 150cc first look, Specification

The iconic Suzuki Gixxer may have kept its fans in India waiting for a long time. However,  it's coming in the form of a stripped down 150 cc version instead of the original 1000 cc iteration.

the bike will generate high traction. While the front wheel gets a disc brake, the rear wheel has been fitted with drum braking system. In terms of suspension, the front gets telescopic forks and a mono-shock system with swing-arm arrangement at the rear.
Expect the Gixxer to be a great mix of performance and mileage.Gixxer 150 is powered with SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance), a newly adapted engine technology, which boasts top-class fuel efficiency without compromising power and performance.

Gixxer has a masculine style design with bigger forks, mono suspension, GSX inspired muffler, all these guddies makes it one mean looking machine.Suzuki has planned to launch the Gixxer in Indonesia this year; Indian debut of Gixxer 150 is scheduled sometime in July or August later this year.

It seems Suzuki is getting really serious about the Indian market, last month Suzuki launched 110 cc “Lets” moped scooter which was unveiled with Gixxer 150 at the Autoexpo. Lets is 110 cc scooter with cutting edge SEP technology.Considering the competitive Japanese rivals who are way ahead of Suzuki making it difficult for Suzuki to cope up with market needs, well difficult but definitely not impossible. The only hit product from Suzuki Motorcycles India is the Suzuki Access 125 and moderately successful is the GS150R.

Radical design of the new Suzuki Gixxer 150 will surely attract prospect customers of Yamaha FZ, Pulsar 150 and Honda’s 150cc bike lineup. In 2014 AutoExpo Suzuki Motorcycles India launched 250cc parallel twin Suzuki Inazuma. Priced a little higher and coming to India via CBU, Suzuki did not find many buyers for this bike yet and it gets in the league of slow selling motorcycle.

It looks like Suzuki found the formula of sucess with Gixxer in the Indian market just like Yamaha got their a few years back with FZ. We hope, with the launch of Suzuki Gixxer, the company will begin new successful innings in India.

2014 Yamaha D’elight 125cc air-cooled 4-stroke single-cylinder scooter

New Yamaha D’elight 125cc Scooter 2014

For the 2014 model year Yamaha announce the launch of the new D’elight scooter, an attractive, compact and affordable retro-style model which combines a competitive price with fashionable good looks and great fuel economy.

This new scooter is one of the lightest and most compact models in the category and its low weight and agile, user-friendly handling characteristics make the D’elight ideally suited to urban commuting.

The up-to-125cc sector accounts for around 60% of the total market for scooters in Europe, making it the single biggest category in the powered two-wheeler world. The demand for 125cc scooters is projected to increase steadily in future years, spurred on by factors such as increasing fuel costs and worsening inner-city congestion.

The demand for economical and practical transport solutions has never been greater and the new D’elight is aimed at those customers who want a stylish, practical and affordable solution to their everyday transport requirements.

Powered by a fuel-efficient 4-stroke engine housed in a compact chassis, the new Yamaha D’elight combines style with economy and quality with performance, making it a very attractive and enjoyable alternative to the car, public transport and other value-for-money scooters.

Light, agile and easy to ride. One of the most important and significant aspects of the new D’elight is the fact that it is one of the lightest and most compact scooters in the class, making it ideally suited to urban commuting where agility and ease of use are important attributes. In fact, the D’elight is so light and compact that its overall weight and dimensions have more in common with many current 50cc scooters.

Yamaha’s designers were able to build this new scooter to 50cc-class dimensions by using a specially designed tubular chassis, into which they have installed a compact 114cc air-cooled single-cylinder 4-stroke engine.

The technical data may not mean a great deal when written down on a specification sheet, but for the typical rider these dimensions mean that the D’elight is one of the most compact, agile and easy-to-ride scooters in any category.

In everyday use around town, the D’elight’s low weight of 98 kg, together with its 50cc-class dimensions make riding, turning and parking so much easier.

To illustrate the point, it is worth noting that the turning radius of the new D’elight is just 1.8 metres, which is actually 200mm less than the 50cc Neo’s.

And for even easier low-speed riding and enhanced manoeuvrability, the D’elight is also equipped with a remarkably low seat height of just 755mm, which is one of the lowest in the category.

Economical urban transport at an affordable price. Not only is the new D’elight one of the most economical forms of two-wheeled transport, it is also positioned in the marketplace at an affordable price. This extremely competitive purchase cost has been achieved by the use of relatively straightforward but effective technology, such as the air-cooled 2- valve 4-stroke engine.

This combination of an affordable purchase price and outstanding economy – together with the ultra-compact and agile chassis – make the D’elight a very attractive proposition for new and existing scooter riders. D’elight is the clear choice for commuters and city dwellers who are looking for a simple, reliable, easy-to-use and cost-effective solution to their urban transportation problems.

Classic and elegant styling. The new Yamaha D’elight represents a new direction for Yamaha because its elegant lines give it a classic look that is not commonly seen on a Yamaha scooter. The gracefully curving bodywork offers the rider excellent wind protection as well as a roomy riding position, while the well padded stitched dual seat and colour co-ordinated grab rail accentuate the classic style and allow the rider to carry a passenger in comfort.

The elegant bodywork succeeds in seamlessly blending the old with the new to give the D’elight a fresh and distinctive image. The eye-shaped handlebarmounted headlight, as well as the high front fender and white-faced retro-style analogue instrumentation have a thoroughly ‘60s feel.

Other attractive features include the integrated taillight and rear indicators, as well as the flush-fitting streamlined front turn signals. For added convenience the D’elight comes equipped with a small open glove box in the knee panel area, as well as a helmet hook and flip-out passenger footrests. Featuring lightweight 3-spoke cast alloy wheels and a high quality of finish, the D’elight blends classic style with contemporary 21st century design to give it a distinctive and fashionable image

Attractive overall specification. Although the new D’elight’s purchase price will be set at a highly competitive level which will mirror that of some of the newer Asian brands in the marketplace, this stylish and appealing scooter is nevertheless able to offer its customers an attractive overall specification.

The classic styling gives the D’elight an undeniably chic and fashionable image, which is complemented by a black footboard and front panel. Together with the black stitched seat, this practical and refreshing design matches exceptionally well with the body colour options of Milky White, Midnight Black and Magnetic Bronze.

Other attractive touches include a fuel filler cap and storage pocket located in front of the rider’s knees and the underseat storage is designed to accommodate a demi-jet type helmet.

Quiet and economical 4-stroke engine. At the heart of this attractive new lightweight scooter is a quiet and economical 114cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine which benefits from YMJET-FI (Yamaha Mixture Jet-Fuel Injection) technology. Technically speaking, this system uses an auxiliary air intake passage beside the main air intake passage to provide an ‘air assist’ which gives improved mixing of the fuel and air for enhanced combustion efficiency. The real-world advantage of this straightforward but effective system is that it improves fuel economy and reduces emissions.

Strong acceleration. Featuring a bore and stroke of 50.0mm x 57.9mm, the 114cc engine is ‘over square’, which, together with its proven 2-valve layout, tends to give a relatively strong torque output at low to mid engine speeds. Indeed, the maximum torque of 7.7Nm is produced at 5,500rpm, which gives the D’elight plenty of strong pulling power for lively acceleration. This ability to accelerate smoothly and quickly is one of the most important qualities on a scooter which is going to spend much of its time at zipping in and out of traffic and doing a lot of stop-start riding, such as pulling away from junctions and traffic lights.

Simple and compact forced air-cooled design. The character and specification of the D’elight’s quiet and economical forced air-cooled engine have been designed to suit the typical daily usage which it will experience, namely urban commuting.

In this situation, where there is a lot of stop-start riding and average speeds are relatively low, forced air-cooling is eminently suitable. This is because the engine is force-fed with cool air all of the time it is running, whether the D’elight is moving or sitting still in a traffic jam. The other important advantage of this simple forced air-cooled design is that it can often be lighter and more compact than an equivalent liquid-cooled engine, and this is what has allowed Yamaha’s designers to fit the 114cc engine into such a compact 50cc-sized chassis.

Lightweight alloy wheels. For easy steering and responsive suspension, the new D’elight runs with lightweight 3-spoke alloy wheels that are fitted with 90/90-12 tyres front and rear. As well as giving good traction and a comfortable ride, these popularsized tyres are also economical to replace compared to the extra-wide designs used on some scooters, which helps to keep overall running costs low.

180mm front disc brake. D’elight riders can also be sure that their scooter’s braking performance is up there with the best, thanks to its large diameter 180mm front disc brake. The lightweight drilled disc is slowed by a compact single-pot caliper, and together with the rear drum brake it offers smooth and even stopping performance.

New Yamaha D’elight. Stylish, affordable and easy to ride. Featuring a lightweight chassis wrapped up in classically styled bodywork, the D’elight brings a touch of class to the important sub-£2000 125cc scooter class. Its quiet and economical 4-stroke engine delivers strong acceleration for zippy urban performance, and with its agile handling and user-friendly nature, the D’elight makes stylish and affordable two-wheeled transport accessible to all those commuters who are looking for a cheaper, easier and more enjoyable way to start each day.
