Hero MotoCorp Unveils Diesel Hybrid RNT 150cc TDi Scooter

Hero MotoCorp Unveils Diesel Hybrid RNT 150cc TDi Scooter

Hero  RNT 150cc TDi Diesel Hybrid Scooter

Hero  RNT 150cc TDi Diesel Hybrid Scooter

Hero Motocorp has stayed silent all these years when other manufacturers went far ahead of them in terms of the products they're offering now. But with Hero's recent move the company has taken a huge leap. It has unveiled a Diesel concept scooter in India along with four more products, a new CBZ Extreme, Dash Scooter, Leap Scooter and the HX250R.

With the rising prices of petrol all of us used to wondered to have a diesel bike/scooter to commute at lower prices. This time its Hero fulfilling our dreams by launching RNT. Even though its still a concept scooter, Its expected to be launched in the market with some changes. As for now, this concept scooter makes 13.5 bhp of power at 4000 rpm along with a gigantic 35nm of torque at a rather low 1600 rpm using a 4-stroke, liquid cooled 150 cc engine with direct injection and turbocharger. All these power will be transfered to the rear wheel via a 6 speed gearbox. The most surprising feature of the RNT is the optional 2WD(two wheel drive system) system which sends 1kW power down to the front wheel as well via an electric front hub motor which gets two options of either controlling it by a secondary throttle or make it work automatically in conjunction with the standard chain drive at the rear.

Hybrid power is provided by a 16 cell li-ion, 500CCA, 12 amp, dry cell technology battery, which can be mounted in any direction. The alternator features 1500W of continuous electric power , developing 6.5 Amp of current at 230 Volts

With the amount of twisting force available and a weight of just 136 kgs, RNT takes about 6 seconds to reach 60kmph, with a rather low top speed of 70kmph. To stop this gigantic torque, it has got a 300mm rotor with twin-piston at front and 220mm with a single piston calliper at rear. Suspension duties are been handled by a 37mm telescopic front fork at front and adjustable hydraulic dual shock absorber at rear. The wheels comes in the form of 2.75x17 inch alloy with 120/70 R17 rubber and 4.00x17 inch alloys with 150/60 R17 tyres at rear. Fuel tank capacity is at 6 litres which is at par with industry standard and has a ground clearance of 168mm.

All of this makes RNT which was really awaited in India and a good answer by hero to the rising prices of Petrol. Even though it looks a little awkward, not stylish like Honda Dio or Yamaha Ray, but hey, when there's a diesel turbocharged engine then who will stop for the matter of looks??

Key Features and Highlights as mentioned in the official release include

Rugged, utilitarian and practical design
Wide flat loading surfaces with strap bars, as well as multi-use folding front, rear and side racks, a large comfortable seat and spacious foot-boards
2WD via optional electric front hub motor which provides up to 1KW of power to the front wheel
Controllable using secondary throttle
Works independently or in conjunction with standard chain drive
Integrated stationary generator mode providing 1500W of continuous electrical power or 6.5A @ 230V
Removable secondary LED headlight with internal Li-ion battery. Front mounted LED main headlights for excellent visibility even with the front rack loaded

2014 KTM 450 Rally Replica Announced

2014 KTM 450 Rally Replica

KTM announced it will offer an official replica production version of its Dakar-winning 450 Rally bike. Marc Coma rode the 450 Rally for his fourth Dakar victory and 13th in a row for KTM in January, finishing nearly two hours faster than any other motorcycle entrant.
The 2014 KTM 450 Rally Replica will be available for purchase later this year for €24,000 (US$32,881) for privateer racers or anyone else who wants to own their own rally bike.

KTM redesigned the 450 Rally for the 2014 Dakar with a focus on making it narrower and better able to handle the more technical aspects of the course. Weight savings are another concern for rally racers, and KTM claims a dry weight of 308 pounds. KTM’s regular designer KISKA crafted the 450 Rally, from clay model to the final complete product.

The rally racer sports a revised single-overhead cam fuel-injected 449cc single-cylinder engine. The 450 Rally has multiple fuel tanks with a combined capacity of 8.7 gallons. KTM equipped the machine with separate front and rear fuel pump systems, allowing the rider to select the fuel source to manage the weight distribution to suit the varying terrains faced in rally racing.
The engine is mounted in a new, narrow chrome-molybdenum steel trellis frame. WP Suspensions provides the 48mm upside-down fork and rear monoshock with re-designed linkage system.
The distinctive carbon tower at the front of the bike has a narrower design than KTM’s previous rally racer, giving the rider a clearer view of the front wheel.

“The success this year in the Dakar rally has highlighted the experience and hard work of our KTM people, who worked closely with KISKA’s team on the new rally bike project, combined with feedback from all of our factory riders and heavy input from Marc Coma,” says Stefan Pierer, KTM chief executive officer. “We now want to pass on the experience of such a successful time in this year’s Dakar to any rider who wishes to own this fantastic bike, and especially to those who are committed to making their rally dreams come true or realize their Dakar ambition. The racing service we offer for privateers is as fundamentally strong as the service we give to our factory riders and we are very proud of helping many riders achieve their goals in the rally.”

KTM says the 450 Rally Replica will be available “soon”. Those interested can place an order through local KTM dealers.

Motoped motorized survival bike will get you there and back

This Mountain Bike/Motorcycle Is Your Ride During the Zombie Apocalypse

MOTOPED® is what it isn't, and dares to be different.  Somewhere beyond a hard-core downhill mountain bike, but not quite a full-fledged (heavy) motorcycle, we carve out a whole new niche.  Lightweight, extremely fuel efficient, novel, useful, and fun--MOTOPEDS® go where stand alone bicycles or motorcycles can't.
Moreover, we get there with head-turning style that's impossible to ignore. We're passionate in our approach, face-forward and transparent in our mission, and proud to welcome you into our cult!
MOTOPED® is a wholly-owned subsidiary of APT MotoVox Group, Inc. (OTC BB: MTVX), a Delaware registered corporation headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.   APT MotoVox Group, Inc. is the holding company for the MotoVox® and MOTOPED® motorsport product lines, SmartCarb® patented fuel system, and the Sonic Flow small engine technology lines.

LOWER YOUR CARBON FOOT PRINT
The MOTOPED® achieves up to a 30% reduction in the output of emissions compared to a competing small engine transportation or recreation product. MOTOPEDS® have a power to weight advantage that significantly reduces the amount of energy needed for forward motion.
If you choose to equip your MOTOPED® with a SmartCarb fuel system, you will experience an even greater reduction in your carbon footprint--as much as 50% to 70% when compared to competing small engine transportation or recreational products.  MOTOPEDS® mission is to provide smarter transportation, treating our environment responsibly.

A MOTOPED® equipped with a standard 49cc stock engine can achieve between 130 to 160 miles per gallon. That’s nearly double that of an average motorcycle. Choosing the SmartCarb upgrade from Motovox (soon available for MOTOPED®) will increase the fuel economy by an additional 25% to 40% with a target of 200+ miles per gallon in your sights.

At around 120 pounds (+/- depending on options), a MOTOPED® weighs in at less than half of what you'd typically find from a small motorcycle.  It's just a bit larger than a downhill mountain bike. You can transport your MOTOPED® on a durable, properly constructed automobile rack--or easily load it into a pickup or van.
Another advantage to a motorized bike is that it can be parked anywhere you can park a bicycle.  Imagine riding to school or work, and then utilizing the bike rack right at the front of the building rather than searching for space in a crowded parking lot.  Later, store it safely inside your dorm or apartment--even getting it up and down a flight of stairs is an easily workable proposition for you and a buddy.

PEDAL OR MOTOR

MOTOPEDS® can be pedaled or motored without stopping to make a change.   While a MOTOPED® weighs more than a bicycle, its great exercise and you will never be stranded. You can peddle in areas where motoring is not welcomed, and motor when it’s time to get up and get gone.  MOTOPEDS® can be  equipped with electric-start, pedal-start, or kick-start engines--insuring against nearly any chance of operational failure.

LICENSING AND REGISTRATION

In most states your MOTOPED® will be classified as a motorized bicycle. Regulations differ from state-to-state, so be sure to educate yourself about local regulations to determine that you're riding legally.  If your state recognizes motorized bicycles as a distinct classification, you are generally not required to license, register, or title your MOTOPED®.

ALSO, THEY'RE REALLY.. REALLY FUN.

Motorcross pro’s ride the MOTOPED® for a new, lighter-weight, lower-cost experience. Outdoor sportsman use the MOTOPED® to trek in without a scent and carry out their game. Students MOTOPED® at school where pedaling and motoring gives them optimal access to almost any part of the campus. Commuters MOTOPED® to work. Municipalities MOTOPED® for lower operational costs and expanded capabilities. Vacationers MOTOPED® to venture away from their RV's and expand their range.  Adventurers MOTOPED® to hit challenging trails and outdoor riding in whole new fashions.

Brands Hatch British Superbike Championship 2014

Tommy Bridewell is celebrating after snatching third position in the 2014 MCE British Superbike Championship standings from Milwaukee Yamaha team-mate and rival Josh Brookes following a tense final race at Brands Hatch.

The Devizes rider, who has made strong gains over the course of a 2014 season that also yielded an emotional maiden BSB win at Cadwell Park, came into the final round embroiled in a battle with Brookes and Dan Linfoot for 'bronze' in the final standings.
With just two points between the trio coming into the final race, Bridewell went on the offensive, forging his way up to third place ahead of his team-mate and holding on in that position when the red flag was drawn to end the race early.

“In that race it was all or nothing,” he said. “I was losing the front, I was losing the rear, I was sideways, here, there and everywhere! I was just thinking 'God, I don't know what more I can do, but that was enough, and that was all I needed to do. It has been a fantastic season and I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Confirming himself in third place and as the top Milwaukee Yamaha rider, Bridewell was delighted with a career-best season, despite its ups and downs.

“When I look back on the whole season it's been a massively emotional year. We went to Cartagena testing and we were really strong, and I thought this is going to be a good season. Then at Brands Indy we were running round in like eighth and ninth or something so it wasn't easy, but I just tried to keep quiet and keep focussed and do my training as I always have. But my mental preparation sort of finally started coming back around.

“I started feeling I was the stronger rider in the team; it definitely encouraged me even more and pushed me a lot harder. I just enjoyed the season, it's been emotional, and it's been very, very difficult at times. But coming into this last round, fighting for third in the championship was massive for me, from what I've gone through.
“I can always remember Mallory after my brother was killed and all these years down the line I'm sat here, third in the British Championship next to Shakey, who's won four, and Kiyo who's won three, what amazing company! That is credit to everyone who's supported me and kept my head up as I have never given up.”

A quick ride on Bajaj’s latest, the Discover 150F 2014

Bajaj Discover 150F

Bajaj Auto expanded the Discover portfolio by launching the new Discover 150S and Discover 150F.Discover 150S and Discover 150F is the cheapest 150cc offering on sale in our country. Bajaj has been able to price the 150cc offering aggressively as it’s based on the now discontinued Bajaj Discover 125ST. Visually the Bajaj Discover 150S is similar to its 125cc sibling, the subtle differences being the restyled graphics, 3D Discover logo on the fuel tank, grab rail finished in black, enclosed chain guard and aluminium side step in black finish. Instrument cluster on the Discover 150S is similar to the 125ST which is an analogue speedometer, odometer, trip meter and fuel gauge while the tachometer has been given a miss to keep cost low. The Discover 150F sports a semi fairing that gels nicely with the silhouette of the bike and has part-digital-part-analogue instrument cluster with digital display for fuel gauge, trip meter, odometer and service indicator.

The Bajaj Discover 150S and Discover 150F is powered by a 144.8cc, air-cooled, twin-spark 4-valve motor churning out 14.5PS at 8,500rpm and peak torque of 12.7Nm at 6,500rpm. The powerplant is mated to a five-speed gearbox in the all-up shift pattern. The mill also features corrugated fins that Bajaj claims helps in improving dissipation by up to 28 per cent. Apart from being the cheapest offering in the 150cc segment, the new Bajaj Discover 150S will also become the first bike in its segment to feature 4-valave technology. Bajaj claims that both the Discover offerings will have a top whack of 110km/h and claims a fuel efficiency figure of 72kmpl.

Seven. That’s the total number of variants currently listed for the Discover on Bajaj’s website. It spans different engine sizes and includes ‘new’ and ‘old’ Discover models being sold alongside at a showroom near you. Yes, it is a bit confusing and thankfully, Bajaj has realised it and is now putting the house in order by introducing two new models at the top of the Discover pyramid.

Don’t get confused, because very soon, there will be only four Discover models on sale including these new ones.

There is little doubt that the Discover is a well-known brand in the 125cc segment, but Bajaj says it saw a need to bridge the current gap between the commuter Discover and the performance Pulsar brand. And the solution was to develop an all-new, 145cc-displacing, 4-valve unit which is now powering the Discover 150F and Discover 150S.

Mechanically, both are identical. Chassis, engine, transmission, suspension are all the same. The difference is that the 150F has a half fairing like the one on the Pulsar 220, which houses a digital-analog instrument cluster. The 150S sports a regular bikini fairing that houses simpler analogue instrumentation.

Design-wise, there is the very familiar Discover tank with similar-looking decals. Wheels are the typical alloy design we see on other bikes with the same name. It is easy on the eye, and if not for the fairing, many would not be able to distinguish between the Discover 150 and its other siblings. In fact, it is not a new thing, this half fairing. We've seen this on the Honda Stunner and Hero Ignitor when it comes to sub-150cc bikes and to be a step ahead, Bajaj is offering similar design cues but in a more powerful bike.

It's pretty easy to ride, the 150. The riding position, to put it simply, is comfortable. Handling is predictable and the reasonably light weight and ample power only make things better. While engine refinement is better than early Discover models, there are still some vibrations that creep in as speed builds up. It's not exactly intrusive, but could have been better. Also, switchgear and general fit-and-finish of body panels isn’t exactly top-notch.

The Discover 150 is an able commuter bike in overall terms. It is comfortable to ride, and should be easy on the pocket. Bajaj claims it will return a real-world figure of 55-60 kilometres on a litre of petrol. The 150F will cost around Rs 65,000 on-road, which makes it one of the cheapest 150cc bikes in India. For someone looking at a regular commuter bike with reasonable power and not wanting to be intimidated by its size and price, the Discover 150 fits in well.
